Job Creation Program

THIS UPDATE CREATED 12-1-09

A JOBS PROGRAM WOULD SOLVE MANY PROBLEMS

It is overwhelming - everywhere you turn our country faces problems of immense scope and the stakes are high. Yes, we have pulled back slightly from an economic apocalypse, but a fall off the cliff is still a possibility.

President Obama juggles two wars, national healthcare discussions, more foreign policy threads than he has fingers and toes but the BIG ONE, the problem foremost on the minds of over 10% of Americans is simply, where can I find employment?

We have to take steps to fix this right now!

Having a steady job with a sustainable income and hopefully healthcare insurance removes the burden of worry and fret hanging over far too many Americans and their families. Getting 5 million people back to work in 90 days or less would go a long way down the road to restoring confidence in our country’s leaders.

Folks, it can be done. It costs one million dollars to keep one soldier on the ground in Afghanistan for one year. Obama is talking about sending another 35,000 men and women into harms way in this far off land, without a set of clearly defined goals and objectives.  Along with those troops, $35 billion dollars will flow out our Treasury to fund the effort. WE NEED TO STOP RIGHT HERE AND THINK ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING.

The solution

If we take that same $35 billion and pour it directly into straight out job creation, not some patchwork stimulus concocted by Congress, you would see a very quick transition away from the fear and hopelessness that plagues our nation, igniting waves of hope and hard work that would ripple though our society and economy.

Give every small business a sizeable and meaningful immediate tax credit or a check for every person hired and kept on for a year. Make the program easy to enroll in, simple to verify (easily done over the web), and put it in place now.

Check back in 6 months and see what the results are. Here are my predictions:

  • Lower unemployment level
  • Improved housing market
  • More tax revenue for government,  both State and Federal
  • National economy on a solid upswing
  • Less money spent on social safety net programs
  • And most importantly….happier, more confident American citizens.

Send me to DC to make it happen; two years is all I need.
